About the Developer

About the Developer

The Forest City–New East Baltimore Partnership is comprised of Forest City Enterprises and Presidential Partners, LLC, a consortium of minority-owned firms that came together to foster the development of the New East Baltimore Community. These firms include Doracon/Lambda Development, Legacy–Harrison Enterprises, Banks Contracting Co., and The Wilkinson Group.

Known for its ability to create lively, mixed-use environments at complex urban sites, Forest City has brought interest and residents back to cities throughout the country. A project that bears close resemblance to the New East Baltimore Community is University Park at MIT—the firm’s flagship biotech development in Cambridge, Massachusetts—which integrates scientific research facilities with more than 670 residential units, a hotel and conference center, retail amenities, parking for 2,700 cars, and acres of landscaped courtyards and pedestrian walks. University Park was recently awarded a 2004 Award for Excellence by the Urban Land Institute, one of the development community’s highest honors. The company has also developed translational research facilities at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA.

The first phase of the project involves a 30-acre portion that will feature a 30-acre mixed-use development project that will include new housing, a Life Sciences and Technology Park, supportive retail, public green space, and other community amenities.

The Life Sciences & Biotechnology Park north of Hopkins medical campus will include 2-million square feet of biotechnology space

This project will also ultimately create up to  6,000 new jobs, with about one-third for high school graduates, a third for college graduates, and a third for those with advanced degrees. In addition, it will feature 1,200 new or renovated homes for mixed-income buyers and renters, including town homes, duplex homes, apartments and senior housing. Low income, moderate and market rate housing will be available for rent and purchase.

Finally, Baltimore’s New Eastside is being planned as a vibrant community that will also feature new landscaping, streetscapes, parks, schools and transportation.
