Become a Sponsor

Below are current sponsorship opportunities for EBDI’s partners. All sponsors will receive prominent recognition with signs and plaques, and in EBDI’s annual report.

School sponsorships

Bikes for Books
$1,000

With a special emphasis on literacy at the East Baltimore Community School, the children are all participating in The 100 Book Challenge. At the end of the school year, the students in each grade who have read the most will win a bicycle.

Time for Tuba
$5,000

The EBCS philosophy of education is “full engagement in learning.” As a former music educator, school Principal Cathleen Miles knows that a child playing an instrument is fully engaged and that a group of students playing together learn valuable lessons about cooperation. Therefore, Principal Miles requires that all Fifth and Sixth Grade students take band. Currently missing from the band is a tuba.

The 100 Book Challenge
Total sponsorship: $35,000
Classroom sponsorship: $3,300
Teacher training: $8,500

When the EBCS opened in August 2009, 87% of Fifth-Graders in the school were reading below grade level. Three were reading at Kindergarten level and could not recognize certain letter sounds or sound out letter blends. No one was reading above grade level. Under the leadership of Principal Cathleen Miles, the school decided to make literacy the top priority. With this year’s 100 Book Challenge, many children have already made a full year of reading progress. Help us continue the work by sponsoring all or part of The 100 Book Challenge.

Neighborhood sponsorships

Lunchtime Serenade
$15,000

One of EBDI’s primary strategic goals is to attract employees of the Johns Hopkins Medical Campus to our neighborhood. To help achieve that goal, we plan weekly lunchtime music concerts from mid-May through August, with upbeat live music and food vendors. Besides being listed on all banners and signs, the sponsor will have an opportunity to present company information to attendees.

Green And Grow
$5,000

As part of EBDI’s emphasis on creating a healthier neighborhood, we are building vegetable gardens to encourage everyone in the community to grow healthy food. The garden, which will consist of raised beds filled with new, organic soil and vegetable plants, will convert the vacant lot behind our headquarters at 1731 East Chase Street into a green space where neighborhood residents, staff and children from East Baltimore Community School gather to learn about fresh produce and nutrition.
